The legal age to get behind the wheel and start learning to drive is 17, however research from a survey of 1,500 participants in 2016 shows that the average age to start driving is now 26.
The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) recommends that a new drive takes at least 45 hours of lessons with a fully approved driving instructor and 20 hours with friend or family. Meaning you need that between 45-75 hours of practice in a vehicle before you are ready to take your test.
